As our cities grow and communities become increasingly paved over, the amount of impervious surfaces has increased dramatically. This increase in impervious surfaces contributes to a variety of stormwater related issues such as groundwater pollution, combined sewer overflows, and increased stress on aging infrastructural systems. Green roofs do an exceptional job and reintroducing resilience and adaptability through the renaturalization of constructed spaces and managing stormwater at the source, before it hits the ground.

Scope of Course
This course is about the different ways in which green roofs can be utilized as a stormwater best management practice, and can supplement existing sewer infrastructure, avoiding a number of weather related costs associated with climate change.

With a background in Urban Planning and Landscape Design, Rohan Lilauwala has spent the past five years working on breaking down barriers to the widespread use of living green infrastructure across North America. Rohan has developed and delivered training programs, tools, resources, and analyses, focusing largely on green infrastructure costs and benefits. He is also the driving force behind the Living Architecture Performance Tool, a rating system for green roofs and walls, akin to LEED.
